Topaz photofxlab review4/2/2023 ![]() ![]() I'm worded out and need a break, but will monitor this thread to see if others might have similar experience or suggestions. It's not a killer shot, but one I'd hoped to use in the new monthly "Bird Close-up" challenge going on over in the Camel Bird Forum. I did go back and reopened the program after the disaster and found using the recent file open option I could regain the FXlab enhanced version which looks like the "FXed 02 JPG and PGN versions showing in my first capture. Results make me feel like I got sand kicked in my face! I've been PPing my JPGs for many years ALWAYS taking care not to over-write my original file. I watched their V1.1 You Tube video twice and got a bit of new and expanded info during the webinar and I was excited to finally today have the opportunity to "play." Seems reasonable to enquire about a new 145meg download as just the day or two before I'd downloaded the 145meg v1.1.0 64bit Windows version. I also asked where I could find a "what's new" explanation, but got no answer. like the presenter did not know but talked around mentioning I believe changes in the registration process. I attended the recent webinar and asked about the difference between version 1.1.0 which I am still using and version 1.1.1 but the answer I got was not specific. This screen capture shows what I found there: It's some sort of grey relief type rendition which I don't think I even scrolled through as I look for the initial preset I wanted to use. When I went back with FastStone to the directory I'd been sorting and found what shows in the green box in the first capture. THEN the program closes! I was give NO file save options. Once I was satisfied I "clicked" to OK above, by hand icon in the capture and then I watched FXlab "scan" the white box in it's layer window. I selected a preset, a minor contrast boost, and then clicked apply effect and then did minor adjustments using the adjustment sliders. So photoFXlab starts and my image appears for enhancement as expected. Photoshop VERY frequently and Fotosketcher and PhotoEngine much less. In this captured example I'm using a directory I setup (with reject photos) to test the problem and it shows the other programs I use in this manner. Rather than move from FastStone to the stand alone version of photoFXlab I setup FastStone to open the selected image with it as I have done with other software I frequently use. The method I used to get the image I wanted to work on in FXlab may have something to do with it. The others in this screen capture are results from going back and doing some experimenting and trying to repeat the problem. Notice the green outline which shows the new TIFF file that took the place of my original JPG. I was weeding through my "need to sort later" directory tossing many to the recycle bin and sending groups of good ones to the appropriate sub-directories which could be called categories. which is this"įastStone Image viewer is my photo file organization tool. I'm a fuddy duddy old guy who can and DOES make mistakes so I went back and tried to duplicate my procedure as best I could remember what I had done. Why? My original photo file was LOST when it was over-written when I "clicked" the OK at the top of the screen to finalize my enhancement results. I've just come from some "play" with the new photoFXlab. ![]()
